A special investigation by ITV news following a freedom of information request has found that that it’s costing more than half a billion pounds a year to keep people in mental health hospitals. Their investigation with Mencap concluded that "...for the financial year covering 22/23..... it’s costing £534 million a year, but it is likely to be much higher as that figure is for the basic costs and not additional needs."
