‘For one patient who had three staff observing them, all three staff were seen to be asleep at the same time. We checked written observation records for the same period, and we found that the staff who were asleep had written observation entries correlating with the times that they were asleep.’
This damning statement is about St Johns House hospital which the CQC has rated inadequate. Over 40 people with learning disability are being detained here under the Mental Health Act. The average length of stay is over 2 and a half years. An inspection on 15 December 2020 resulted in an inadequate rating for a range of serious issues. Four months later in April this year another visit found continued problems leaving the inadequate rating in place. The Priory Group own Partnerships in Care Ltd which run St Johns House.
