Aims

This course aims to provide mental health administration staff and hospital managers with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage the Act in practice. It considers the necessary tools to ensure effective compliance with the legislation and Code of Practice.

Learning Outcomes:

The course will be delivered by Cassie Finnigan 

Cassie has worked within NHS mental health settings for over 25 years in various roles. She has worked clinically in inpatient mental health services, led a Mental Health Act administration department and as a MHA Improvement Manager. She is currently the Head of Mental Health Act for an NHS Trust, that is rated ‘outstanding’, and has overall responsibility for compliance, governance, and assurance around the MHA. She has developed and implemented Mental Health Act drop-in clinics for service users promoting full involvement in their care. She provides expert advice to all services within her trust and has supported new MHA administrators both in NHS Trusts, Independent Hospitals and Acute Hospitals. Cassie provides training on the MHA, the MCA and the interface for clinicians, advocates and administrators and receives excellent feedback for content, knowledge and delivery. She has an LLM in Mental Health Law.
