Mental Health Act annual figures


Three years ago, the chair of the government sponsored Independent Review of the MHA stated: ‘..we have to accept the painful reality of the impact of that combination of unconscious bias, structural and institutional racism, which is visible across society, also applies in mental health care.’ The latest annual MHA statistics highlight the severity of this in relation to Community Treatment Orders (CTO) finding: ‘Amongst broad ethnic groups, known rates of CTO use for the ‘Black or Black British’ group (78.9 uses per 100,000 population) were over ten times the rate for the White group (7.8 uses per 100,000 population).’
