18th November 2021, the CQC rated Lilas House as inadequate. It is a care home for six people with a learning disability and autism. The CQC found a series of serious concerns including: ‘People were at risk of harm due to the lack of effective systems in place to identify when people were at risk. Staff lacked knowledge and did not follow key care plans and risk assessments,..’
And: ‘A toilet door had a stable door design where the top of the door could be opened from the outside whilst someone was in the toilet.’
Most of the residents are under DoLS and the relevant Supervisory Body should immediately carry out a Part 8, DoLS review in response to this rating. The care home is owned and run by the same Directors as Jeesal Cawston Park hospital which was in the news earlier this year after the deaths of three people with learning disabilities (all in their thirties).
