A useful reminder that GP practices just like care homes and hospitals (amongst others) fall under CQC inspections. A CQC Inspection report published on 10th March for the Great Barr Medical Centre rated it inadequate and placed it in special measures.CQC inspectors stated: ‘We identified staff working in roles where they would carry out assessments of people's health needs, but no evidence to demonstrate they had completed the relevant training for their role. On reviewing a random sample of clinical records we found inadequate examination and history recorded, wrong dose of medicines prescribed and no evidence of clinical oversight in place.’‘The practice remains in special measures as a result of concerns we found and we did not have assurances that improvements by the GP partners were being sustained to ensure continuity of care.’The inspection report also shows that concerns were originally triggered by a whistleblower in the practice. The practice will be subject to increased CQC oversight and an action plan to make the necessary improvements put in place.
