Acute NHS Trusts and the MCA

On 4th November the West General Hospital (NHS acute hospital) was rated inadequate by the CQC and placed into special measures.

Reasons for the inadequate rating included: ‘Staff were not assessing patient’s mental capacity to make decisions about medicines"

For example, we saw that routine medicines for patients living with dementia were not given and the reason recorded as ‘patient refused’. There was no assessment to determine if patients had the mental capacity to make that decision..’

The report can be viewed here.
