£17,000 - the cost of getting Section 117 wrong

A recent Ombudsman report found a council was at fault for charging a woman a contribution to her residential care costs for 19 years when she qualified for free care under Section 117 of the Mental Health Act.


The Council had to refund the woman £114,721.36 and interest on this amount of £17,368.50.
