Aims

The main aim of this course is to develop an understanding of older people’s mental health, including the interaction with physical health. Many people assess older adults as part of their work but lack an understanding of the person’s mental health and how this may affect the assessment. With scrutiny of mental capacity assessments in all areas of work increasing and the forthcoming Liberty Protection Safeguards, a better understanding of poor mental health in older adults will be vital.

The course is designed for social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, speech and language therapists, care home managers and BIAs who would like to expand their understanding and knowledge of this important subject. In addition, legal professionals practising in the subject areas of the Court of Protection, private client and Mental Health Tribunals will find it very useful.
