Tam is a mental health law solicitor, with a specialist in forensic mental health law. She is the Principal of a mental health practice and the current Chair of the Mental Health Lawyers Association and in this capacity regularly makes representations to various agencies regarding developments in the field of mental health law, including responding to consultation processes on behalf of the MHLA. Tam also holds positions as a Law Society Mental Health Panel assessor and a Legal Aid Agency Peer Reviewer. She has previously sat as an Associate Hospital Manager. Tam regularly delivers training in mental health law and practice to mental health practitioners including lawyers, psychiatrists and nursing staff and is a visiting lecturer at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
