Piers McNeil is an independent social worker specialising in the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Adult Safeguarding. He has 15 years’ experience in a range of adult social care fields, including: Learning Disability, Physical Disability, and Older People’s Mental Health. Piers is a qualified DoLS Best Interests Assessor and prior to becoming independent, held several senior local authority positions specialising in the Mental Capacity Act and Adult Safeguarding. Piers is passionate about demystifying the MCA and empowering others to use it effectively. He has led practice forums for Best Interests Assessors and has designed and delivered training to a range of audiences. Piers is also a Court of Protection visitor undertaking visits and producing reports for the Office of the Public Guardian and Court of Protection.
